Your eyes are not deceiving you: 2136 Great Highway Highway is indeed the listed address for this week’s top overbid home, and this of course is due in part to the fact that there are two Great Highways in San Francisco, side by side no less.
You could be forgiven if that fooled you, but nobody should have been fooled by the initial $1.77 million-plus asking price on this property, as the home sold for well over $2 million (off market) just three years ago; prior to that, the price in 2011 was just $895,000.
Proximity to the beach is rarely the big deal in San Francisco that it is in other coastal cities–partly because west side housing development mostly came late in the city’s history, and partly because Ocean Beach itself is a temperamental beast.
Nevertheless, this listing leaned hard presenting the ocean views, and evidently it worked: This is the 11th most expensive home sold in the Outer Sunset this year, and two of the homes ahead of it are also Great Highway properties.
For the curious, the difference between the number one and number 11 spot on those rankings right now is $1 million even. For all of 2021, only ten Outer Sunset properties sold for more than this home just did, and the top ten most years includes several other Great Highway homes.
