Nothing to do with real estate, everything to do with World Cup Soccer. Thierry Henry, handball? Clearly!
For those that don’t know soccer, first of all shame on you (it’s the most popular sport in the world), but when a player touches the ball with his hands it is considered a foul, referee blows the whistle, play is stopped, goal is reversed, other team has free kick, thus getting the ball back. The world is abuzz as to whether this was intentional, and whether the game should be replayed, because it advanced France into the World Cup (the largest sporting event in the world…yes, bigger than the silly Super Bowl).
We consider San Francisco pretty metropolitan and there are a few soccer fans here, so what do you think? Sophie, what say you?
I couldn’t care less about soccer, sorry. I read about it, I get happy about it, but I won’t get exited about it.
So my take on it: confirm the referee is an idiot, and agree to a replay – out of fair play AND to stay in peace with the Irish spirits living in my house ;)
In my opinion Henry should have kept his mouth shut post match. He is a competitor and it was in the moment. The referee and linesmen missed it, and missing the call is fair play. But by speaking up and admitting hand ball post match, Henry made the issue go upstairs. Now it’s a matter of “Will Dommenich offer the Irish side a replay?” and “Will Sepp Blatter, the president of FIFA, step in?”
The Irish need to ask themselves, would you offer a replay? If they can honestly say yes, then fair play. I doubt that’s the case. And I doubt any Irish player would be dumb enough to admit hand ball post game anyway.
kind of hard not to admit handball when it is captured in a million different angles on video. I think though, that if the refs and linesmen missed it, even if Henry admits it, it is all part of the game. He got away with one. Think of how many kicks, pushes, shoves, shirt pullings and other hand balls slip through the cracks.
I predict at some point in this tournament France beats Argentina and Maradonna has to answer questions about if he thinks it’s fair that the goal stood up.
